The ideal place to relax and explore the region

About Us

At Mas Camins we aim to provide Bed & Breakfast at its best, with a genuine sense of friendly hospitality underlying everything that we do. We want to make your stay with us as enjoyable and comfortable as possible, from the moment you make your booking to the time you say goodbye. As well as offering a warm welcome, comfortable beds and locally-sourced, homemade breakfasts, we set out to cover your every need so that you can relax and get on with enjoying your holiday. We’re passionate about this beautiful region and are always pleased to help our guests explore it by providing routes, tips and all the information you could ever want. We love meeting people and speak fluent Catalan, Spanish, English and French.

Mas Camins is a lovingly-restored eighteenth-century farmhouse at the entrance to the quiet village of Avinyonet, in the Alt Empordà. It is surrounded by the beautiful rolling countryside of the Garriga d’Empordà, a peaceful landscape of Mediterranean scrubland, olive groves and farmland, fragrant with rosemary, lavender and thyme. In the background, the volcanic hills of the Garrotxa region and the foothills of the Pyrenees loom majestically, creating stunning scenes in the early morning mist and at sunset. Avinyonet is off the beaten track, the ideal place to relax and unwind while you enjoy the slow pace of life in a genuine Catalan village and explore the region.
Mas Camins combines the beauty of an old stone farmhouse with all the modern amenities to make your stay restful and comfortable. Three of the bedrooms are on the first floor, where there is also a shared terrace, ideal for recovering after a busy day. Upstairs, the romantic suite Lavanda boasts its own private terrace. The rooms are named after aromatic plants and all have ensuite bathrooms, free Wi-Fi, central heating and individual air conditioning, comfortable beds and a large, antique wardrobe. We provide complimentary toiletries, slippers and a hair drier, along with anything else you may need. Downstairs there is a cosy communal lounge, with an open fireplace and flat-screen TV for lazy winter evenings, while the shady terrace is the popular in the summer at all times. We serve complimentary tea and coffee whenever you like. We also sell a selection of local wines to drink on the premises or to take home with you.

Breakfast is served at the pine table in the kitchen and on the terrace in summer, at a time to suit you between 8 and 10 am. The delicious menu is different every day and includes freshly-squeezed orange juice, a selection of homemade cakes, yogurts, jam and marmalade, ham and cold sausage from the local butcher’s, fresh seasonal fruit, cereal, pancakes, good coffee, tea or hot chocolate. We can easily cater for vegans, vegetarians or any special dietary requirements that you may have.
Breakfast is also the time for us to help you plan your day and for you to exchange impressions with the other guests. We are delighted to share our knowledge of the region and there is a display of maps, books and leaflets to help you make the most of your stay. We can also give you tips on the best places to have lunch and dinner, keep you up to date on local events and make bookings for you.

We are within easy reach of the Costa Brava (Cadaqués, Roses, El Port de la Selva, Llança…), towns and cities like Girona (30 mins.), Figueres (5 mins.), Banyoles, Besalú, Olot and even Barcelona (50 mins. by high-speed train). There are several Natural Parks to explore nearby: Cap de Creus, the Garrotxa Volcanic Area and the Albera mountains provide breath-taking scenery and are great for walkers, while the wetlands of the Aiguamolls de l’Empordà Natural Park are a paradise for birdwatchers. The long list of other places worth visiting includes the Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes, and the numerous picturesque villages and beautiful scenery of the Alt Empordà and Baix Empordà counties.

The area’s natural beauty and mild climate create make it the ideal setting for a spectacular array of sports and leisure activities with excellent facilities, ranging from first-rate golf courses, cycling and mountain biking, hiking, trail running, kayaking and open-water swimming to sky diving, scuba diving and sailing. We’re sports fans ourselves and we’re always pleased to help guests with routes, bookings and gear hire.

Culture is also a big attraction, whether tracing Salvador Dalí’s life through the three museums in the Dalí Triangle (we’re just 10 mins. from the Dalí Museum in Figueres), viewing art galleries in Cadaqués, visiting the Greek-Roman remains in Empúries, or exploring the Jewish quarter of Besalú or Girona’s old town.

The province of Girona is also renowned for its delicious food and wine. It is home to the D.O. Empordà Wine Route, with over 50 wineries making mostly organic wine with local varieties of grapes. You can taste their wines at the wineries themselves or at any of the enormous variety of restaurants throughout the region to accompany the delicious, locally-sourced, seasonal cuisine. We like to welcome our guests with a glass of wine from one of the local wineries, and we can easily arrange a wine-tasting visit for you. Gourmet food lovers are amply catered for with 13 Michelin stars in the province at present, and a strong interest in innovative cuisine inspired by such internationally acclaimed chefs as Ferran Adrià and the Roca brothers.

Mas Camins really is a wonderful place to spend a holiday! Why not come and find out for yourselves? You can bring your pets with you, too. Come and do all there is to do, or just come and enjoy unwinding in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.
